Restoration Church Next Steps

Excited and scared! Those words describe how my wife and I feel about this season of our lives and ministry. We are excited to be on a church planting team, and to be raising prayer and financial support. We are scared as we step out in faith like never before! Have you ever felt that way? Here’s my personal update and a few lessons I’m learning that might help you navigate a similar season of life.

Restoration Church

After years of preparation that included doctoral studies, reading stacks of books, attending conferences, church planting boot camp, and formal church planter assessments… we’re stepping forward to be part of Restoration Church in Gaithersburg, Maryland!Restoration Church

The mission of Restoration Church is to join God in Restoration of all things. We believe God is FOR the city and her people. In the midst of the brokenness and struggles people face, God is at work, drawing the hearts of people Himself.

God uses people. He uses people like us, and people like you! Imperfect, yet in the Restoration process! Jesus makes all things new. And while we won’t be completely new until we join Him in heaven, we can be Restored into a vibrant relationship with Him. Broken relationships between people can also be Restored.

Next Step

GCM
The next step for us is to work full-time on prayer and financial support development. We are now support-based church planting missionaries with Great Commission Ministries (GCM) (the GCM name is changing, update coming soon). We cannot do what God is calling us to alone. We are reliant on Him and others who partner with us through prayer, time, connecting us with others, and giving financially.

Our goal is to raise 50% of my monthly financial support by May. That enables me to continue raising support full-time so I can be released to my calling to pastor Restoration Church.

WHAT I’M LEARNING

The combination of being scared and excited teaches several lessons:

1. God can be trusted.

Psalm 18:2 The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

2. Prayer is essential.

Phil 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

3. Team work makes the dream work.

Rom 12:4-5 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
